Reflexology and Homoeostasis

Diet, lifestyle, emotions and stress can cause bodily imbalance, which leads to unhealthy skin and disease.
To remain healthy, our bodies must be regulated in a constant state of internal balance, under ever-changing conditions. The term used to describe this process is homoeostasis.
Homoeostasis is a state of co-ordination which maintains the normal functions of the body until one or more of its systems get out of balance. When this happens, all the cells of the body suffer, and disease or ill-health is the result. A healthy body is able to resist disease and to repair and adapt itself to compensate for injury or stress, but in illness this control is lost.
Susceptibility to flu, for example, is largely determined in this way, which explains why not everyone who is exposed to the illness will ultimately come down with it. For example, all the cells of the body are bathed in fluid which supplies their nourishment and carries away toxic waste products. The characteristics of this extracellular (outside the cell) fluid must remain nearly constant to enable the cells to live and work properly.
Reflexology is a non-invasive health technique that recognizes that parts of the body, such as the feet, hands and ears, are a reflection of the whole body. Reflexology restores homeostasis by applying pressure to the reflex areas which creates a physiological change in the body by increasing the circulation which releases the toxic waste products and normalizes bodily functions. This also relieves stress and tension, deeply relaxing the whole body from head to toe. It could be described as a "Massage from the Inside Out".
You could say Reflexology heals by relaxing and allowing the body to function normally without the interference of stress and tension. Reflexology improves circulation, optimizes body functions, supports natural healing processes and generally has a relaxing and revitalizing effect like a tuneup.
Reflexology benefits are greater with a series of sessions.
When we're balanced in body, mind and spirit, we radiate a fresh, happy, peaceful feeling from within and it's only natural that the face and skin are vital and blemish-free. Now that's true beauty from the inside out.

What is Hand Reflexology?

Hand Reflexology is a pressure point technique used to stimulate reflex areas of the hands that relax and stimulate every part of the body. The techniques used in Hand Reflexology are almost the same as in Foot Reflexology.
Hand Reflexology is a great substitute to working on the feet and can be used when working on the hand is more convenient or if the feet are injured or amputated. It is recognized that working on the hands can be just as useful as working on the feet and the practice of Hand Reflexology is developing.

What is Ear Reflexology?

Ear reflexology is the most recent development in reflexology, and it has evolved out of "Auricular Therapy" or acupuncture of the ears. Ear reflexology is the science, study and art of touching the ear using specific touch techniques that stimulate the reflex areas that correspond to all the other parts of the body, including the glands and organs. This stimulation balances and harmonizes the functioning of these parts of the body, and thereby facilitates healing.
The techniques used in ear reflexology are different to those used with the feet and hands, primarily because of the different size, shape and position of the ears.
